John Lomax worked in the ceramic tile industry as a commercial contractor and after selling his business, he started painting watercolors. He became active in several regional art associations and is a signature member of the North Carolina Watercolor Society. He has studied with many well-known watercolor artists and teachers and has taught workshops and classes in the Charlotte area. Some of his paintings are scenes taken from his travels in this country and abroad and he has exhibited in many shows and galleries throughout this area.
Lomax especially likes to paint landscapes, animals, and still life, and has found that people’s faces and everyday scenes provide interesting subjects. The strong contrast of values, light, and shadow is evident in many of his paintings.“I love the challenge of watercolor painting. The medium has a mind of its own and each painting can be a learning experience.”
