With the foster care system in North Carolina currently serving more than 10,000 children, The Crossnore School’s number one priority is to serve more children. When our Young Children’s Village is completed this spring, we will be able to serve more than 100 children on our campus. Serving those children is significant in their lives. But serving 100 children out of 10,000 is not enough in the big picture.
Since the summer of 2015, the Board of Trustees has been involved in a strategic planning process to determine ways to expand our reach and impact in western North Carolina. It became increasingly clear to the Board that partnering with an agency that was already doing similar work would be the best solution.
During this planning process, CEO Brett Loftis was approached by the leadership of The Children’s Home, a human services agency for children in crisis in Winston-Salem, NC. The Children’s Home was established in 1909 by The Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. Their Board of Trustees was looking for ways to continue providing the best care for the thousands of abused and neglected children in the region.
On February 3, The Crossnore School and The Children’s Home announced their affiliation creating an organization that will provide a greater continuum of care and offer a wide range of services across both locations.
Our ultimate goal is to become the premier provider of children’s services in western North Carolina.

Brett Loftis, CEO, has assumed leadership over both organizations and integration of services across both campuses will take place in the coming months. The leadership teams and Boards of Trustees will finalize the appropriate governance structure for combined services to support healing children.
With the rich histories of both organizations, the strong connections to our respective communities, and the ongoing support from our donors and volunteers, together The Crossnore School and The Children’s Home are now poised to make an even larger impact in the lives of the children we serve.
