Qualifications & Documentation

Volunteers / service individuals are the heart of our organization and support every aspect of our work. Learn more about the process, qualifications and documents needed to help our cause.

All positions must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age, unless accompanied by a responsible adult. Specific roles may have further age requirements.
  2. Have documentation on file with Crossnore of all requirements listed in this policy.

Preferred Skills

  1. Ability to engage community and child served in appropriate social interaction and ability to establish appropriate boundaries for a healthy relationship
  2. Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  3. Possess the necessary skills for the assigned tasks and activities.
  4. The ideal person will be a willing listener, encouraging and supportive, patient and flexible, and tolerant and respectful of individual and cultural differences.

Full Background Checks 

Volunteers regularly working directly with children must meet certain NC State and accreditation requirements.  The application process includes:

  1. Application
  2. Interview
  3. A certified criminal record check.
  4. Fingerprint submission to and report from NC Department of Health and Human Services Division of Child Development and Early Education.
  5. A search conducted of the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry.
  6. A search of the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.
  7. A search of the Responsible Individuals List to determine if the volunteer  has had child protective services involvement resulting in substantiation of child abuse or serious neglect,
  8. A signed statement that the volunteer has not abused or neglected a child or has been a respondent in a juvenile court proceeding that resulted in the removal of a child or has had child protective services involvement that resulted in the removal of a child.
  9. A signed statement attesting that the volunteer has not abused, neglected, or exploited a disabled adult and has not been a domestic violence perpetrator.
  10. A Crossnore Communities for Children Confidentiality Statement.
  11. Liability Release Form.
  12. Three references relevant to the role and responsibilities to be assumed.

Releases

Persons regularly serving in roles that do not interact with children are asked to complete the following application process.

  1. Application
  2. Interview
  3. A signed statement attesting that the person has not abused, neglected, or exploited a disabled adult and has not been a domestic violence perpetrator.
  4. A Crossnore Communities for Children Confidentiality Statement.
  5. Liability Release Form.

Information

Service roles that are one-time or occasional and are not covered under the two prior descriptions must have an application submitted before serving.  This application covers contact information and other relevant information including emergency contact information.
