Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) FAQ

What is a CSA, what does it stand for and how does it work?

  • CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is a program where consumers pay for a “share” of the farm at the beginning of the growing season. This allows the farm to  have some income during the most expensive period of farming (when we buy seed, plants, fertilizers, and much more). With this purchase you, the consumer, is also taking some of the production risk that the farm normally assumes fully. We call this “shared risk.”
  • You, as a consumer and supporter of our farm, buy a share at the beginning of the season for one or both of the 10-week sessions. Then you come to the farm each week to pick up your “share” or box of veggies that the farm has produced.

What’s the value of the produce in my box?

  • It will vary, but in general, it will be approximately $75 worth of food.

How many will this box feed?

  • It is enough produce for an average family of four.

When and where can I pick up my share?

  • Pick-ups are at Miracle Grounds Farm Store on the Winston-Salem campus of Crossnore School & Children’s Home, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
  • Wednesdays from 12:00 to 1:00 pm and 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

Will there be protein in my box (beef, chicken, eggs, etc.)?

  • If we are short on a produce during a particular week, we’ll add some of our farm’s protein to your box.
  • The protein may be an occasional steak, a pound of ground beef, or a dozen eggs, etc.
